UPDATE! Feds raid local medical marijuana dispensaries

-Oakland County Michigan 4/12/2011- Federal agents raided at least three different properties on Tuesday morning, with the raids apparently targeting medical marijuana operations.

The United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) searched the Caregivers of Americal dispensary in Walled Lake, a residential home in Commerce Township, and also a Novi office building at roughly 7am on April 12, 2011, reports the Detroit Free Press. Federal search warrants were executed at the three locations according to the DEA. Other details were not released.

The DEA will not comment on what led to the raids or if they were connected.
The home is Commerce Township is said to be owned by Romel and Ban Casab. One of Casab’s neighbors reports seeing agents arrive at the home shortly after 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Federal agents seized two cars in the raid.
About 10 agents were at the home Tuesday morning, with four or five cars, reports the Detroit Free Press.
The dispensary in Walled Lake, is owned by a company called 1020 Decker LLC. This company also owns a building  in Novi. The DEA confirmed agents were also at the location on 12 Mile on Tuesday morning, executing a search warrant.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s office, led by none other than Michael Bouchard, assisted the DEA in the raids. Bouchard, who is no stranger in the fact that he opposes medical marijuana, had infamously said last year “This is Michigan, not some Cheech and Chong movie” in defending his harassment of medical marijuana providers.
Michigan voters overwhelmingly approved the legalization of marijuana for medicinal uses in 2008, but this has not stopped the federal government from raiding dispensaries and other grow operations. The American Civil Liberties Union is filing a lawsuits against some cities in Michigan, stating the raids are unconstitutional.
